Keep your court deadlines. This is a preliminary educational check, not a definitive assessment or proof that service was valid or invalid. The result is not intended as evidence for court. A Process Service Compliance Review is needed for a detailed assessment of the actual documents; the court decides legal validity. Do not ignore court papers or deadlines because of a result.

HOW TO USE THIS SERVICE CHECK

1. Choose how the papers were delivered

Select Personal Service if the papers were delivered directly to you. Select Substituted Service if they were left with someone else, at a location, or sent electronically under a court order.

2. Answer a few simple questions

Choose the answer that best matches what happened. Have your court papers and the server’s report nearby if available. If you are unsure, select “I don’t know” instead of guessing.

3. Read your preliminary result

The result highlights possible problems or information to verify. It does not prove that service was valid or invalid. You can edit your answers or open “Save or share your result” to print, save, or email a copy.

4. Take a closer look at the service record

For a detailed assessment of the actual documents, visit Process Service Compliance Review. Reviews are available to attorneys, law firms, and government clients. Individuals should ask their attorney to contact us.

Keep your court deadlines. This self-check is educational and is not intended as evidence for court. Completing it does not extend or suspend any deadline.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What does the Texas Process Service Check do?

It asks simple questions about how your court papers were delivered. Choose Personal Service or Substituted Service to identify possible problems or missing information that deserve closer document review.

Who is this check for?

It is designed for initial court papers served on an individual inside Texas in an ordinary state district or county court civil case. Justice court, eviction, probate, federal cases, business entities, and service outside Texas are outside this tool’s scope.

Does it check personal delivery or service by mail?

Yes, the Personal Service mode checks direct delivery. Substituted Service checks delivery under a court order, such as papers left with someone else, at a location, or sent electronically. Mail-only delivery needs a separate review.

What documents should I have ready?

Have the citation, petition, and Return of Service available if possible. For substituted service, also have the judge’s signed order. The citation tells you to respond; the petition explains the case; the return describes what the server says happened.

What if I do not know an answer?

Choose “I don’t know.” Missing information does not automatically mean service was improper. It means the relevant documents or facts need to be checked.

What does a flagged result mean?

One or more answers suggest a possible problem, such as missing papers, a difference in the server’s report, or a step in the court order that was not completed. The actual records need review before drawing a conclusion.

Does a clear result prove that service was valid?

No. It only means your answers did not trigger this limited checklist. Other requirements, court records, or facts outside the test may affect the assessment.

Can I use the result as evidence in court?

The result is a preliminary educational screening, not a definitive assessment or proof of valid or invalid service. It is not intended as evidence for court. A detailed assessment requires review of the actual documents; the court decides legal validity.

What is Process Service Compliance Review?

It is a detailed review of completed service records and supporting documents. It examines issues this short self-check cannot assess. Visit Process Service Compliance Review to learn about the available review services.

Can individuals request a review directly?

Houston Process Servers, LLC accepts review assignments from attorneys, law firms, and government clients. Individuals should ask their attorney to contact us.

Should I wait for a review before responding to court papers?

No. Keep your court deadlines and promptly discuss the papers with your attorney. Completing the self-check or requesting a review does not extend or suspend a deadline.

Is the check free and anonymous?

Yes. The self-check is free and does not require your name, case number, email address, or uploaded documents. Answers stay in the page’s memory and are not automatically sent or saved by the widget. The website’s separate analytics and privacy practices may still apply.

Can I print, download, or share my result?

Yes. Open “Save or share your result” after completing the check. You can print your result, save it as a PDF through your browser’s print dialog, or download a text copy. Share Page and Copy Page Link share the tool’s link, without your answers. If your browser does not support native sharing, copy the link into a message or social post.

Can I email the result to myself or someone else?

Yes. Choose Email My Result, enter the recipient’s address, and open the email draft. Your mail app opens with your answers, result, and page links. You review and send the email there. The website does not automatically send the email or add the recipient to a mailing list.
